Mr. Gil Jarvis

Director of Orchestras

Mr. Jarvis is from Odessa, Texas and graduated from Permian High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Music with emphasis in Viola Performance from Texas Tech University in 2019. He started playing the viola in 6th grade, and was very dedicated to his love for Fine Arts and sports. Eventually, he could not imagine his life without music and decided to continue pursuing that love for years to come. One of his favorite joys is being able to pass on the passion for music to his students and seeing that same passion ignite in them.

Mr. Jarvis is going into his seventh year of teaching orchestra. His prior teaching positions were at Midland High School in Midland, Texas as the assistant orchestra director for two years. He then moved to Lewisville where he became the director of the DeLay Orchestra for four years. This will be his fifth year in Lewisville ISD, and he is so excited to share his love of music and learning with my orchestra students. The pride and tradition of excellence at McKamy does not go unnoticed, and he hopes to carry on that same legacy with the support of the parents, students, and community.

Mr. Jarvis still holds many professional gigs and has played with many regional symphonies in the West Texas region since his second year in college. These positions include the Midland-Odessa Symphony & Chorale, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and Amarillo Symphony Orchestra. His primary gig of choice now is musical theatre or symphonic music.

During his personal time, Mr. Jarvis enjoys many hobbies including playing the viola, golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family. Mr. Jarvis and his wife are expecting a newborn son in September 2026 and could not be more excited for all of the new adventures.
